Skills and Capability Exchange for the Welsh Energy Industry.

The Exchange event undertaken as part of the DCELLS Energy project, on the 15th February at Cardiff City Hall, was a huge success, with over 80 delegates from the Industry participating.
The opening address was given by Ms Christine Chapman AM, Deputy Minister for the Department of Lifelong Learning and Skills, and Deputy Minister for Local Government.
The event allowed delegates to participate in identifying skills needs and recruitment issues, as well as enabling them to suggest solutions to the issues identified.
A summary report of the event can be found here.
The Energy Project which has recently obtained additional funding from the Wales Objective 1 Fund, includes the provision of a Training Needs Analysis for businesses in the sector, as well as offering solutions to needs identified, and where applicable grants to support these.
Issues arising from the event will be addressed over the next 2 years of the project, and may include the development of new qualifications, an Energy Sector careers portal, a schools awareness initiative, Solutions to the coal Mining Sector skills needs, Energy Efficiency initiatives, assessment of current modern apprenticeships, renewable and microgeneration initiatives etc. to be developed with relevant agencies including the Sector Skills councils.
